The PS5 is Sony’s newest game console, and it has a lot of improvements over its predecessors. For example, it supports 4K resolution, has a variable refresh rate, and has a solid-state drive that loads games very quickly.
Since the PlayStation 5 came out in 2020, Sony has released several numbers of games for it. However, the company’s continued support for the PS4 is said to have slowed the technological progress of first-party exclusives like God of War: Ragnarok and Horizon: Forbidden Grass.
But Microsoft’s Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S game consoles have had the same problem.
So, even with the new price, the PS5 is still one of the best game consoles on the market.
Design
The PS5’s huge size has been talked about a lot, but it’s worth saying again: the PS5 is a monster. At 15.4 x 10.2 x 4.1 inches, Sony’s console is much bigger than any other recent video game system, including the PS4 Slim and PS4 Pro.
It is also a lot bigger than the Xbox Series S and a lot bigger than the Xbox Series X, which is the next next-gen competitor.
The PS5’s huge chassis lets it have great performance while running relatively quietly and coolly (more on this later), but its size may be a problem for people with small living rooms.
If you don’t want to put your PS5 on the floor, you’ll probably need a small table just for that. When the PS5 was laid out flat, it just barely fit in my entertainment center.
Before you buy a ps5 digital, you should take accurate measurements of your play area. The PlayStation 5 comes with a removable stand that can be used to place the big console either vertically or horizontally, which brings us to our next point.
In its vertical position, the stand screws into the PS5’s base (it comes with a screw, but no tool to screw it in), and in its horizontal position, it clamps onto the backport area of the PS5.
Even though I could have used a screwdriver or other tool to take off the PS5’s base, I found that a coin worked just as well.
When the base is in place, the system can stand on its own. However, I found that the base was not very stable when it was in a horizontal position.
I had to try a few times before I could get it to stand up straight on the base.
I was able to attach the PS5 to a horizontal surface in my entertainment center, but my initial confidence was quickly dashed when I realized that the console could easily slide off the base if it wasn’t placed exactly right.
Still, I’ll probably spend most of my time with the PS5 on its side because I’m afraid of knocking it over when it’s on my table because of how tall it is (especially when my hyperactive nephews are over).
I still can’t decide how I feel about how futuristic and eye-catching the PS5 looks. When the console is standing upright, its sharp white sides and the uneven mass of the Bluray drive make it look like a big, ugly cable modem.
But I’ve grown to like how its rounded corners and sharp edges look when it’s laid flat under my TV (even if it looks like a miniature Barclays Center).
The beautiful LED status lights on the inside are another plus. They are slimmer and easier to see than the ones on the PS4.
Also, it’s a nice touch that the icons for the PlayStation controllers are hidden inside the inner panels.
Whether or not you like Sony’s latest gaming system, the PS5, you can’t deny that it’s different from everything else on the market.
Starting on December 13, 2021, you’ll be able to buy official PS5 covers that let you choose different colors for the system’s faceplates.
The system won’t look much different, but at least the interface won’t be all white. Also, there is an unofficial PS5 Slim that, despite having a lot of problems, seems to be pretty good.
Details and Equipment
The NVMe SSD and the AMD Zen 2 processor make it possible for games to load faster and have more demanding requirements.
16GB of GDDR6 RAM makes it possible for this to work so ridiculously well. The PS5 is even different from the PS4 Pro because of its technical features and ability to process information.
Even though it’s missing a few things that should have been included, this system is very powerful and can easily compete with the Xbox Series X.
Sony’s focus on speed, ease of use, and the possibility of better graphics and resolution are more than backed up by the console’s internal parts.
The PS5 is powered by an AMD Zen 2 chip with eight cores that can run at different speeds and a top clock speed of 3.5 GHz.
The graphics processing unit (GPU) is also made by AMD and has a top speed of 2.23 GHz, which is 10.28 teraflops.
Not as powerful as Microsoft’s most popular product, but plenty for modern graphics and hardware-accelerated features like ray tracing.
The PS5 also has a huge 448 GB/s of bandwidth and 16 GB of GDDR6 video memory. Wi-Fi 6 is a little bit out of date now that Wi-Fi 6E is a competitor, but Sony kept it in because it has great download speeds. Bluetooth 5.1 has been added as well.
I was able to download a 40GB file through my home internet connection in about 30 minutes. As long as your hard drive has enough space, the console will zip through a list of downloads with no problem at all.
The PS5 comes with an 825GB SSD for saving games and apps, but the operating system will use a small amount of that space.
Because of this, you now have 667.2 GB to use. Even though there is a lot of space, I still have to delete games often to make room for others. In the next few months, serious gamers may want to think about upgrading, which is easy to do thanks to the M.2 SSD, as we’ve already said.
The console’s Tempest Engine has made 3D audio possible, which is being hailed as one of the most important new features.
Because of this, hundreds of audio sources can be registered at once, instead of just 50 on the PS4 and PS4 Pro.
I haven’t seen third-party games make the most of the PS5’s 3D capabilities, but first-party games like Returnal and Ratchet & Clank: A Rift Apart do a great job.
Even though any headphones with a wired connection will work, Sony’s Pulse 3D Wireless headset gives you a more authentic wireless experience at a reasonable price and with great sound quality.
Effectiveness and Wait Times
The PlayStation 5 has an 8 core AMD Zen 2 processor, 10.3 teraflops of graphics power, and an incredibly fast bespoke SSD. This gives it some of the best performance ever seen in a gaming machine.
I’ve only been able to play a few PS5 optimized games so far, but I’m already happy with the quality, frame rate, and, most importantly, load times that the PS5 can produce.
This news shouldn’t come as a surprise, but games look great on Sony’s new console.
Spider-Man: Miles Morales looked more like a high-end PC game than a PlayStation game, with its beautiful reds and purples.
The ray-tracing features of the console made it possible to see photorealistic reflections of skyscrapers and puddles in Times Square.
In the PS5 version of Miles Morales, there is a Performance mode that turns off visual effects like ray tracing and uses upscaled 4K resolution to get a better framerate.
Switching to this mode let me race through the city at a smooth 60 frames per second while still enjoying the game’s beautiful scenery. I felt like I was doing something that older systems couldn’t do.
Going back to the PS4 version of Miles Morales, which often dropped below 30 frames per second, was very frustrating because of this.
Sony has said that the PS5 will be able to change its refresh rate (VRR) in 2022. This means that future versions of the console should be better than this.
Ray-traced graphics and 60 fps performance settings are great, but the PS5’s SSD is what really makes it feel like a next-generation console.
In a game like Spider-Man: Miles Morales, it doesn’t take long to get from the home screen to the streets of New York City.
With the PS4 version, it took me about 20 seconds to do the same thing.
I could also move quickly between the game’s main hub and any of Astro’s Playroom’s many colourful levels without ever seeing a loading screen.
With the PS5’s lightning fast SSD, games like the interdimensional explorer Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart look like they’ll do some really creative things. The Activities menu also lets you skip to certain parts of a game.
Even before seeing how more games use the SSD, I can say with certainty that it is one of the most important changes to console gaming in a long time.
Verdict
When compared to what Sony has done before, the PS5 is a big step forward.
Whether it’s the sleek SSD technology or the graphics that can handle 4K, this laptop is a beautiful, easy-to-use step forward for the current generation.
The PS5 is one of the best consoles on the market because it has an easy-to use interface, a growing number of exclusive experiences, and a general ecosystem that includes what came before it.
